updated review
I wanted to correct my earlier review. This was tight in the beginning but quickly became snug but not too tight. I highly recommend.
This stainless steel canister (now with a new smoked exterior lid!) is the ultimate in loose leaf tea storage! Super simple, yet sophisticated, it keeps your tea away from harmful air, light and moisture. The 18/8 restaurant-grade stainless steel body resists staining and the transfer of odor and flavor. The interior (black) lid acts as a plunger that has a patented, one-way valve to expel air from the container and locks closed to keep air out for ultimate freshness. In fact, the plunger is so effective you can hear the air escaping from the storage canister as you depress it. If desired, the exterior (smoked) lid may be used as a protective stand-alone lid without the inner plunger lid. Added bonus - they are easily stackable to save you counter space!
The small storage canister comfortably fits any of our regular-sized organic teas and herbs and the large storage canister fits any of our bulk sizes.
Small - 4 inches (height) x 5 inches (diameter)
Large - 7 inches (height) x 5 inches (diameter)
How it Works - 3 Easy Steps
1) Transfer. Transfer your tea to the storage canister.
2) Plunge. Place the black lid on top of the storage container and flip up the handle. With the handle raised, slowly push down. You will hear air escaping from the canister as you plunge downward. Stop when you hear the crinkle of tea leaves! To prevent your tea leaves from crushing, do not depress the black lid too low.
3) Seal. Close the valve on the black lid by flipping down the handle. Finally, place the smoked lid on top.
Top shelf dishwasher safe. Both lids are BPA-free.

These are the best I have ever found. I have been buying them over several years and have found them to be nice to look at, and very good at preserving the tea. I am a tea nut and have probably 15 or more teas on hand. (lost count) These containers keep the tea fresh forever! (that is my opinion) I am buying more today. So, I have around 12 of them. Is that a record? I do use some ball canning jars too for less sensitive teas like Kukicha Twig tea.
Very impressed with these tea canisters, especially with the sealing quality / O-ring, locking mechanism. Very cool ! I got one of each, small for my Jasmine pearls, and the larger one for the bulk Jasmine which I also ordered from Arbor Tea. Will do a review on the teas later. I was never fond of the tins - square or the round ones. Only thing I could imagine better would be a canister with a vacuum seal of some kind that would suck the air out ! Again, impressed and happy that Arbor tea introduced me to this product. Will be getting more in the small canister size. dk+
Excellent storage solution for my teas.
I wanted to love this but I find it too difficult to remove the "plunger". I dare not push it all the way down as the supply decreases for fear that I will not be able to get it out. I have to pull so hard that I have to be careful not to send the tea flying all over the room.
This is next-level tea storage. The airtight plunger enables you to push air out of the canister and the lock seals it up nice and tight. It's sturdier than my other canisters and looks great in my cabinet. It's larger than most canisters, but if you have the space, it's a must.
Before this storage canister became available, I used Arbor Teas' Storage Tin, which works well to keep tea free from light. But this new storage canister not only protects your teas' taste from light, but from the oxygen that a normal tin cannot eliminate. This canister's ability to eliminate oxygen from touching the tea makes it the ultimate in loose tea storage.
As a new loose leaf tea drinker, I saw the recommendation to get the proper storage container for the tea. I am very pleased to have purchased this container. It's seal is so strong, my husband struggled to get it off the first time :-P (user error) I also like that after filling it there is a little bit of room on the top to store my tea scoop. It also looks great on the counter and I am proud to leave it out for company to see :)
I buy tea in bulk and it eventually starts to lose flavor even in an closed tin. This canister is truly airtight. The materials are substantial and it is easy to use. It would be nice if you could offer a smaller size as well. This size is a little large if you want to store just a couple of ounces of tea.
