This beautiful and functional porcelain ceramic teapot is a clean, modern take on the classic Japanese kyusu design. Pronounced CUE-shu, “kyusu” means “teapot” in Japanese and can be used to describe a variety of teapot styles. However, the defining feature of this teapot is its straight handle (characterizing it as a yokode-kyusu). The handle style originated from the design of a kettle which was later adapted to brew tea, specifically Japanese green tea, and to facilitate a gentle pour with the simple turn of the wrist.
This petite white teapot, made and designed in Japan, features the traditional built-in strainer at the base of the spout. As a result, tea leaves are placed directly in the teapot to steep and strained during decanting. The round porcelain body is complemented by a small spout that pours smoothly and cleanly. The flat lid is sleek and easy to remove.
