Good tea
I just got this and love it. I disregard any 'steeping times' and leave the tea ball in there the entire time I drink (even up to 2-3 hours). I am a big fan of the flavor of this tea and really like it. It has a great flavor imho!
Our organic, Fair Trade Certified Bai Mu Dan White Tea (also known as Pai Mu Tan or White Peony) hails from China's southeastern Jiangxi province. This superb organic tea is made from the uppermost two leaves and a bud, plucked in early spring and withered and dried in the sun before the buds are able to open. The leaves of this organic tea from China range from green to brown with plenty of buds that show a very light green almost grey white color, covered with a delicate velvety down. The pale yellow infusion has a subtle lingering fragrance, and a mellow sweet vegetal taste.
Ingredients: organic and Fair Trade Certified Chinese white tea
Jiangxi, located on the Eastern side of China, is surrounded by mountains on three sides and sits comfortably in a subtropical climate, making it an excellent place for growing tea. As a whole, tea isn’t a large export from this part of China, but in the north of Jiangxi tea production has become an important part of the agriculture. The Jiangxi WuYuan Xitou Tea Farmers Association reflects the transition of a society from governmental control to democratic processes and market economy. Once state-owned, WuYuan Xitou’s ten tea gardens are now owned by individual farmers who have collectively assembled to make up the farmers association that became Fair Trade certified in 2004.
At Arbor Teas, we believe tea should be brewed to suit your personal taste. We’re happy to make recommendations to get you started, but don’t hesitate to experiment! When brewing your tea, your main considerations are tea quantity, water temperature, and steeping time. We recommend green and white teas to be steeped for 2 to 3 minutes in water heated to not-quite-boiling, just as bubbles begin to form on the bottom of the pan (approximately 170 to 180 degrees F). For the best flavor, use fresh water whenever possible. Try not to steep your tea longer than necessary, as you’ll extract undesirable bitterness from the leaves. If you want a stronger brew, don’t steep longer, just use more tea. And remember to re-steep your tea leaves to get the most out of your leaf!

"Bai Mu Dan is a great light bodied tea for the morning when you want something warm but not overpowering in flavor."
"This tea reminds me of a spring morning."
"I'm delighted that we can offer a Fair Trade, Chinese organic white tea of such high quality!"

I ordered a bunch of different kinds of tea from Arbor recently and this one was surprisingly my favorite. I have tried white teas in the past and always been a bit underwhelmed by their lack of flavor, but this one was so complex, sweet, and floral. I did short steeps and resteeped 5 times and it was lovely.
This is one of my top favorite teas. The flavor is mild but extremely well rounded and there is something very satisfying about the way it goes down. Here is where it places on my rating scale for various attributes: Taste - 5/5 Stimulation - 3/5 Clarity and focus - 3/5 Mood elevation - 4/5
This tea never ceases to both delight and suprise me - it's so cheap I almost can't believe it's as good as it is, but every single bag delivers. It's more like Shou Mei in some ways, particularly the mentholic complexity and light tobacco notes, but it looks like Bai Mu Dan, which is sort of a fun confusion for my tea nerd brain. It's good out of the bag, but it really starts to shine after about a month in an airtight container and just gets better the longer it sits. I brew it in unglazed purple clay or grandpa style, and one serving of 5 grams will last for a couple days of heavy brewing, so it's an absolute steal for the price. I've been buying it for years now, it always delivers, and its become one of my favorite daily drinkers from Arbor, so I can't praise it enough...
Tastes of hay lightly sweetened with honey. No bitterness or astringency with a very light minerality. Quite smooth and refreshing. Beautiful as iced tea. A definite keeper!
I enjoy studying the subtle notes and fragrances of this delicate, but still complex, tea. It has a surprisingly rich mouthfeel for its light flavors, which are reminiscent of the vegetal sweetness of steamed squash or asparagus stems. It has no astringency or bitterness to overpower its light flavors, making it easy to drink continuously throughout the day. The subtle flavors and scents linger on, as well, which adds to the experience of drinking it. I tend to steep it just on the strong side, at maybe one and a half tablespoons, though only for two to three minutes. I've found I can reuse the leaves three times without losing too much flavor, which makes this more economical and helps to balance the high volume used. Since these leaves are large and loosely packed, a good cup requires a higher volume of leaves than other teas. Overall, it's a pleasant, mellow, and soothing tea for those who enjoy light, sweet, vegetal flavors.
This tea is mellow and subtle in flavor- much better than other white teas I've purchased at local tea shops or grocery stores. I don't think it has much caffeine, or at least it never has left me jittery. It's gentle on my stomach, unlike black or green teas. It has become the only tea I drink. I also love supporting Arbor Teas.
This helped me stay awake while working and going to school full time. Hot, cold, or mixed with other teas, this tea is amazing. I personally drink a lot of milk tea cuz I was a manager of a boba milk tea shop, but I drink this straight brewed because it's too light to add milk to, but it's still perfect.
Best white tea I've tasted!! Smooth with a nice woody flavor, no astringency at all. Wonderful tea to unwind with before heading off to la-la land. Makes a good restful sleep even more restful. When following the prescribed temperature and time, one can't go wrong!!
A great low astringency tea. When cold brewed, it can become almost medium bodied
This is a nice mellow tea. I tend to mix it with the Nepal green tea for a mellow wake me up in the morning.
Even though it was my first time trying Arbor Teas, I opted for a bulk order of this particular tea because I figured I'd go through it quickly. Glad I did! It's mild and smooth, and I definitely could drink it every single day! Very pleased.
To me this tea tastes similar to a Chinese Gunpowder. It is lighter and smoother than Gunpowder, but a similar flavor. If you like Gunpowder, but want something a little more refined you should like this tea.
The only other white tea I had was from World Market, also a Bai Mu Dan. I found this one much tastier with more flavor. It had a faint sweetness to it with no bitterness, smooth I would say. I also found some floral notes sneak in between sips.
This makes an excellent iced tea (my preferred way to drink tea). It's light but still flavorful and very refreshing. The price is right, too.
This is the first time I tried white tea. I must say its a good change for the variety of tea we have. It's a good addition to what we are used to. It's very flavorful and delicate at the same time. It's very pleasant in taste and extremely soothing in fragrant. It's very refreshing after a heavier meal especially. My husband finds the taste very pleasing when he just wants to have something light to end a busy day. We really enjoy the lovely taste!
A really grand white tea at an affordable price. I get two infusions from one batch of leaves. I have also found that extending the recommended steeping time yields more flavor but does not cause any bitterness. For the second cup, I have steeped as long as six minutes. A marvelous tea by any standard. The brew is wonderful even when the cup cools. Light and crisp. A real winner. It's my go-to white tea now.
This is my first white tea, so I'm no connoisseur, but I was really pleasantly surprised by this tea. I'm normally a strong black tea drinker so I wasn't sure I'd like this (I find herbals/tisanes too mild and don't like green teas much). I bought the sample of this mostly to get up to the free shipping level and I'm really glad I did! I agree with the reviewer Benjamin Hartwick below on the flavor profile: smooth but not boring, no bitterness, slightly earthy, slightly sweet. I'll be buying the largest size on my next order to drink in the afternoons when I want something a little more mellow. Truly tasty!
Fantastic stuff, get yourself some quality white tea without breaking the bank. I enjoyed it.
This is an easy drinker, a comfort tea, light and subtle but not bland, provided you make it strong enough (use enough tea and steep on the short end of the time spectrum, 3 minutes at most). It’s smooth and delicate without being boring. I has a mild floral flavor that does not even come close to cloying. There is also hint of earthy sweetness and no bitterness at all that I can detect. I find it refreshing and that I can drink a large volume of it in a single sitting while I’m working at my desk. I keep it in a thermus so that it is always hot. A feature that I find interesting is that it remains appealing even when it has cooled in the cup, which is something that can make some teas become unappealing to me once a certain heat threshold is crossed. I do like this tea best when it’s hot, but if it becomes lukewarm in the cup, I don’t mind. This tea is like friendly well behaved pet. You can embrace it and interact with it if you wish, but it does not demand your attention. I plan to make this a staple item in my tea collection, which is easy to do since it is remarkably economical. It is an exceptional value. DESERTED ISLAND TEST Would I have to have this tea with me if I were banished to a deserted island? No, but I would miss it on occasion. If I could only bring one white tea with me, it would be the silver needle. If cost were no object, I would drink silver needle several times a week, but this tea does a good job of filling the white tea space for me, and I am very happy to have discovered it.
This white tea is excellent a few hours before bed. It has floral notes, low caffeine, and not an overwhelming taste. Add some local raw honey and drink it nightly!
The tea is good if you are in the mood for something light and crisp. To me, the taste is similar to green tea actually. Personally I prefer complex tasting teas, and this one is considered quite straight forward to me. I add a little honey to balance the green taste. If you don't have time to sit down and sip on a cup of hot tea, this tea will make a perfect quick satisfying cup for sure! Perfect tea as the base for creating recipes too!
My wife and kids enjoy this tea. The subtle flavors can be appreciated yet the brew remains light. We find this to be a great night tea that is very relaxing.
Has the delicate floral aroma characteristic of Bai Mudan when brewing and a very subtle yet healthy fruitiness. Reminds me of a tea you would only find at the finest Chinese restaurants. My bag had a good blend of whole young leaves and hairy leaf shoots. Organic and fair trade certified at an affordable price ensures I will order again soon when my current bag runs out!
I'm hooked on white tea. This one meets my budget needs. It has that light, sweet, nutty taste that I love in white peony. It contains a fair amount of whole leaves, but also some fragments and dustier parts. I've seen higher grade, and that's why I'm giving it four stars.
This is a nice, somewhat sweet white tea. It's light bodied, which is to be expected, but it has enough flavor to make a black tea drinker like me satisfied. I like to relax after dinner with this one.
Only recently started drinking white tea, and I have found this to be one of the best teas on this website. Delicious, a rich flavor with hints of fruit. Love the mild complexity of this tea!
The leaf is attractive but very cumbersome. It's not its fault. Large unbroken wisps of grey and green. Pleasant to look at, harder to store. Steeping at 175 for a little under two minutes yielded a pale yellow liquor with notes of cinnamon. A delicate, lacy, crisp apple of a cup of tea. It was a nice surprise for someone who is not often fond of White Tea
Prior to ordering the bulk size of this Bai Mu Dan (also known as White Peony), the only white tea I've ever had was silver needle. Setting the bar pretty high, I know, but this tea is absolutely every bit as good as silver needle in my opinion, and it obviously costs such a small fraction of the price. It's got kind of a floral taste to me, nothing too strong though (just as you'd expect with a white tea). I'll definitely be turning this into a staple of my tea rotation- it's my new go-to white tea, without question.
I love white tea and the subtle, sweet and earthy flavor is wonderful without the addition of anything in the cup. This will be one of my regular purchases
I purposely waited 9+ months to review this tea in order to provide a true assessment of it. I ordered this tea in bulk and stored it inside the large air tight metal containers sold here. When properly infused (the right temperature and time), this is an excellent tea. The aroma is very pleasant and the tea is incredibly calming and full of complex, delicate flavors without bitterness. Naturally, second and third infusions are not as bright and intense as the first, but still pretty good. I highly recommend this tea to anyone!
I'll confess I really do love silver needle tea, but my wallet doesn't feel as passionate as I do. The other reviews describe this tea as having a similar taste to silver needle, so I initially purchased it thinking, "Well, if it's close and for a lot less then I might as well, right?" Lucky for me, this tea stands on its own with an excellent flavor. It feels more robust than silver needle, but by the time I get to the bottom of the cup it's much lighter. I don't feel like I'm "settling"--I really do like this tea!
It really isn't fair to compare this tea to the white needle, since it's SO much cheaper. I buy it to supplement my intake of silver needle, so I don't end up living in a cardboard box. XD The flavor is more green and floral than the silver needle. This is my daily-white-tea-driver.
This is a truly great white tea and I have had many over the years. Rich flavorful and complex as any Oolong or Darjeeling in my opinion. The fact that it's organic and Fair Trade is just icing on the cake. At the current price this is a steal.
This tea is a close second to Silver needle. At about half the price this one is a strong best buy. There is a mild sweetness with a faint hint of another flavor I want to call "malt" but I am not sure. Whatever the correct flavor I call it delicious. This is the first tea I decided to buy in bulk. With all of the health benefits of white tea this one should be in everyone's home.
