This organic, Fair Trade Certified decaffeinated Earl Grey Black Tea combines organic oil of bergamot with decaffeinated organic tea from India. Because this organic loose tea is decaffeinated using a state-of-the art carbon dioxide (CO2) decaffeination process, the rich and coppery flavor of this organic black tea comes through nicely. Also, CO2 decaffeination does not involve the use of harmful chemicals, so the resulting product is simply a healthy cup of organic decaffeinated tea with most of the caffeine removed (and no chemical overtones)! What are Flavored Teas?
Our delicious flavored teas use the same top-quality organic tea that we offer in our unflavored varieties, but are blended with pieces of real fruit, spices, flowers, and 100% natural flavors. When blending our teas, our goal is to create a cup that balances the taste of the tea with the flavors of the additional ingredients so that neither one overpowers. All of the natural flavors we use are either extracts taken directly from the botanical ingredient, or extracted using 100% GMO-free grain alcohol as a solvent. You can rest assured that none of the flavors used in our blends are synthetically or artificially derived, and do not use artificial preservatives.
Steeping Instructions
At Arbor Teas, we believe tea should be brewed to suit your personal taste. We’re happy to make recommendations to get you started, but don’t hesitate to experiment! When brewing your tea, your main considerations are tea quantity, water temperature, and steeping time. We recommend black teas to be steeped for 3 to 5 minutes in water heated to a full, rolling boil. For the best flavor, use fresh water whenever possible, and avoid overboiling. Try not to steep your tea longer than necessary, as you’ll extract undesirable bitterness from the leaves. If you want a stronger brew, don’t steep longer, just use more tea. And don’t forget to re-steep your tea leaves to get the most out of your leaf!

Health Benefits
Like all true tea, black tea offers many potential health benefits. Research has found that tea (Camellia sinensis) can have many positive effects on human health, including improved cardiovascular function, cancer risk reduction, improved immune function, improved oral health, and help with weight management. Tea is also full of polyphenols, which are a class of antioxidant that help your body maintain homeostasis and balance your stress levels. Black tea specifically has been found to regulate blood sugar in diabetics better than other types of tea, according to a study done by the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Traditional Earl Grey is a blend of black tea flavored with the essence of Bergamot rind, though the name may also be used to refer to any tea—black or otherwise—that uses bergamot as a flavoring. Bergamots are small tart oranges native to southern Vietnam that are a cross between the sweet lemon and the sour orange, C. aurantium. The essential oils from their rinds are what give Earl Grey its characteristic flavor. This famous tea is named for an English prime minister, Lord Charles Grey the second, from the 1830s who first popularized its consumption. There is a popular legend that the Earl received the tea as a gift from a grateful Mandarin after one of his men saved the Mandarin (or his son, depending on which version of the story you hear) from drowning. Charming though it is, the story has no basis in fact, because the Earl never traveled to China during his life. Beyond that, no records indicate that the Bergamot was even cultivated in China at that time, so this tea would have been a very unusual gift! Nevertheless, the current Earl Grey, Lord Charles Grey the sixth, maintains that at the very least his ancestor was given the tea as a gift from a Chinese envoy.
I really wanted to like this tea, but it’s a bit much for me. I’m not a big fan of strong floral flavors. However my husband loves earl grey tea, and he said it’s a really good full bodied tea. That being said, to be impartial, I am basing my review off his opinion, since I’m not the expert on this type of tea.

Earl Grey Decaf
Posted by Maria Battista and Michael Bagley on 20th Oct 2021
This is by far my favorite tea. Although decaf the flavor is full bodied and very satisfying. Often when I've had my cup in the morning I refill the french press and let it sit and I have iced tea for lunch or for dinner. It is very easy working with Arbor. We also order the decaf Green, also a very good tea.

my all-time favorite tea... and it's decaf!
Posted by Lindsay Burner on 21st Sep 2021
I've loved earl grey tea for a long time, but had trouble finding a decaf version before finding Arbor Teas. This is my third order and I keep coming back to it for its perfect bergamot flavoring in a decaf black tea. I use a French press and can steep the leaves twice which makes my supply last forever! I really appreciate being able to have this lovely staple tea in decaf.

Finally found an excellent decaf earl grey!

I've been looking for a tasty decaf earl grey for a long time. I googled around and found Arbor Teas and am SO happy that I did. Not only is this tea so tasty, I love the sustainability of the company. I gifted my mom some decaf earl grey for mother's day and she's loving it too. I'll definitely be back for more once I run out!

Better than any other decaf tea out there!
Posted by Bethany Shibley on 8th Mar 2021
I'm extremely caffeine-sensitive but love black tea, especially earl grey, and Arbor Tea's decaf version is everything I ever wanted. This has all of the flavor of earl grey and none of those weird undertones chemically-decaffienated teas always have. I'm about to order more!!

Delicioius Decaf
Posted by Kelly Cook on 20th Nov 2020
This is the BEST decaf earl grey I've ever had! I am very sensitive to caffeine, but I love a rich black tea. This is everything I wanted. The perfect amount of bergamot and goes great with a little honey and plant milk. I love it all times of the day, but especially as a dessert after dinner. Placing my order for the bulk size as I write this.

Simply amazing!
Posted by Jenni Curtice on 13th Jul 2020
I stopped drinking caffeine recently but oh how I miss my black teas! Arbor Teas decaf teas were recommended to me by a friend so I decided to try this one- and it did not disappoint! Decaf teas tend to be over processed, have a strange taste, and have weird chemicals from stripping the plant of it's natural oils! This earl grey tastes great and I'd pretty much never know that it's decaf! The sweet notes of bergamot with the malty, full bodied black tea are everything I want in a black tea. Without the caffeine, it's become my new go-to tea! Super bonus that the packaging is compostable!

still loving this tea- repurchased
Posted by Lindsay B on 24th Sep 2019
I am still loving this tea- I repurchased the largest possible size! The bergamot flavoring is really nice without being overpowering and the tea is smooth. I also appreciate that I can rebrew the leaves once without much loss of flavor, so I expect this order to last a really long time. Highly recommended!

Decaf Earl Grey best decaf tea i've had 4 stars if non decaf, 5 cause it is decaf.
Posted by chris P on 12th Feb 2018
I haven't tried more than 4 decaf loose leaf teas but this is the best by far. I mix .4 lobsang souchong with 2.5 gms of this earl grey and i get a real potent tea with only .4 grams of regular caffeine tea. Most decaf tea I won't drink, doesn't match an expensive decaf coffee for quality. This tea is an exception for decaf.

OMG! The best Earl Grey Ever; Decaf or Regular!!
Posted by Bonnie R. on 6th Jan 2015
I got a sample of this & what's there to say? This is absolutely wonderful!! Perfect. I've tried a lot of Earl Grey blends and I do believe this is the best to date I've ever tried. My husband drinks decaf, and I drink both depending on the time of day. We got a sample of both as this is one of our all time favorite blends; they are both FABULOUS!! Smooth, clean, just the right amount of Bergamot!! Back to purchase a large bag of both!

Best Earl Grey ever!
Posted by Roseanna on 8th Nov 2014
I'm a long time Earl Grey lover. Before purchasing from Arbor Teas, I thought the brand I had was pretty good. After purchasing Arbor Teas Earl Grey my life was forever changed. I was blown away from the second I opened the bag. The floral aroma itself was intoxicating and the taste was heavenly. I shared it with my mom and now the two of us are addicted. Arbor Teas now has two customers for life. Phenomenal tea plus fantastic and super friendly customer service...What more could you ask for?!

Best decaf Earl Grey!
Posted by Yen-Wen C. on 14th Mar 2014
I love Earl Grey and now I can enjoy it at night :) Decaf Earl Grey is always one of my favorites. I always try to avoid drinking black tea at night even though I would love to. Having this wonderful decaf option, I don't loose my sleep. I like to add a little rock sugar to it personally. The quality of the tea is satisfying and I don't think I will have Earl Grey comes in a tea bag again :) There is a big difference in flavor! P.S. I like to dilute my tea with lots of water sometimes, so I can have Earl Grey flavor water through out a day, what a treat! Do that to any tea you like, good quality tea goes a long way!

a nice light tea
Posted by Dimitra on 17th Feb 2013
This Earl Grey Decaf is a nice alternative to the full strength if you are looking for less caffeine. I found it to be a bit bland when compared to the full on Earl. You don't notice the decrease in flavor after a while if you don't drink the caffeinated one and directly compare them.

I can have my favorite tea again!
Posted by Denise Cicuto on 27th Jul 2012
I was so pleased when I got my decaf sampler. Earl Grey has always been my favorite tea and I thought I'd miss it when I gave up caffeine. Now I don't have to! This tea is full of flavor without the jitters. My morning cup of tea feels back to normal for me. Plus, the environmental packaging is a win.
