Toasty
Rice is one of my favorite foods, and now I have an excellent tea that incorporates that toasty flavor. The "extra" matcha is also beautiful to look at in the cup. Personally, this would be a favorite for me in the fall.
This organic Genmaicha Extra Green is an innovative blend of organic Genmaicha (pronounced GEN-my-cha) green tea and organic Matcha (pronounced MA-cha) green tea. Called the best Japanese organic green tea invention of the 20th century, this exceptional combination of Genmaicha's toasted aroma and Matcha's rich green character brings forth a pleasing and harmonious flavor that is bolder, sweeter and slightly more bitter than our traditional Genmaicha.
Ingredients: organic Japanese green tea and organic brown rice
Kagoshima is a prefecture on the island of Kyushu, in Southern Japan which boasts a chain of active and inactive volcanoes that add to the soil content. Kagoshima is the second largest producer of green tea in Japan, and tea has been growing here since the 1300s. However, much of the world never experiences organic tea from Kagoshima because green tea is so popular in Japan that most tea grown in Japan is consumed in Japan; very little is exported. Within Japan, Kagoshima is the furthest distance from the Fukushima disaster. For those concerned with the implications of the Fukushima-Daiichi disaster, we continue to have our organic teas from Japan independently tested for radiation.
At Arbor Teas, we believe tea should be brewed to suit your personal taste. We’re happy to make recommendations to get you started, but don’t hesitate to experiment! When brewing your tea, your main considerations are tea quantity, water temperature, and steeping time. We recommend green and white teas to be steeped for 2 to 3 minutes in water heated to not-quite-boiling, just as bubbles begin to form on the bottom of the pan (approximately 170 to 180 degrees F). For the best flavor, use fresh water whenever possible. Try not to steep your tea longer than necessary, as you’ll extract undesirable bitterness from the leaves. If you want a stronger brew, don’t steep longer, just use more tea. And don’t forget to re-steep your tea leaves to get the most out of your leaf!

"The added matcha gives this tea a little extra kick!"
"I love the neon green infusion of this tea!"
"What a great invention! I prefer this one over our traditional Genmaicha green tea."

I'm obsessed with it! I love what the rice does for the flavor- I'm addicted to the added roasted smell and flavor. I agree with the other review that said 165 is best. I drink it through the day, because it's just as good no matter the temperature. So delicious and I have to hold myself back from having a cup late at night too- now I'm craving it all day.
This is by far my favorite tea that I ordered from this site. It tastes like the tea you order from Japanese steakhouses and sushi restaurants. I recommend brewing this at a lower temp than whats on the instructions. I found this tea (and other Japanese teas) to brew best at 165 degrees for 1-2 minutes, and then you can do another brew for 3 minutes for a second cup. 180 degrees is too harsh for this tea.
What a beautifully prepared blend of organic green tea and roasted brown rice grains dusted with matcha! It is the most delicious form of green tea because the rice grains add a touch of sweetness that balance the bitterness of the matcha. I love drinking this tea daily, and know it benefits one's overall health!
The color of this tea is so fun, and I like it hot and iced. I love the nutty flavor of the toasted rice, and the matcha gives it a nice vegetal flavor. One of my go-to teas!
I like this tea. It has a really cool color. If you like Genmaicha and Matcha give this a try.
I'm a fan of very green teas and this one lives up to its name. I adore the combination of gen Mai cha mixed with matcha. It's so delicious and invigorating. My friend and I sampled it using dark metal teacups and you could see the green hue peeking out of the darkness. Gorgeous and flavorful. I can't wait to order a full-size bag!
Although I enjoy the earthiness of the toasted brown rice - which provides a stronger flavor than I expected - Matcha tea being what it is...this is a strong tea - although I admit I'm new to loose-leaf teas and drink mine with 5 or 6 drops of Stevia. That said, I don't LOVE this tea but am hoping it will grow on me; I'primarily interested in the health benefits. The Matcha powder seeps through my T-Sac but I don't mind drinking the small amount that collects at the bottom of the cup.
I just started drinking green tea to get the health benefits that go along with it but I've never been a fan. This tea is the 1st that I've tried and and I didn't use a measuing spoon and went a little heavy with the leaves. The tea wasn't bad at all but did have what I felt was an over powering taste. I think I would've enjoyed it more if I went lighter on the leaves. I added a little honey (I'm a 10 pack of sugar in my coffee and tea kind of girl) to it and enjoyed it with my morning protein shake. I only ordered the sample but I will be ordering more!
This is my current favorite tea. I bought the regular size less than a month ago and now I'm going for the bulk. It's refreshing and light without the bitterness of some green teas. I'm a fan of regular genmaicha as well but I think the matcha makes this a more exciting cup of tea. It's a good amount of caffeine for me too.
I just finished my first canister of this lovely tea and am reordering together with a canister of the regular genmaicha ostensibly for comparison but in fact I'm a glutton for this stuff especially with a whisper of stevia for added sweetness. I like to consume the leaves when I reach the bottom of the cup rather than filtering them out (poor man's matcha). This blend is rich and tasty at the front end and exhibits very little bitterness at the back end even if the leaves have sat in the brew for an hour or more. Highly recommended.
i agree with both of those comments- i love it more than the regular genmaicha and the color and flavor is amazing. it is my favorite tea of all time!
Wonderful tea! Nice roasted rice flavor. I've been looking for an organic version of this tea for quite a while. Glad I found it here!
Toasted flavor of brown rice over rich vegetalness of sencha style green tea
Fresh tasting and buttery, notes of cucumber skin with moderate bitterness
High quality matcha with a thick vegetal taste and minimal bitterness
