Sri Lanka is one of the world's most significant exporters of orthodox teas because of the sheer volume grown and exported. The island now known as Sri Lanka was historically referred to as “Ceylon” by the British colonial powers, hence the name for Ceylon teas. Arbor Teas offers two single origin organic teas from Sri Lanka, each a nice representation of the tea estate’s specific flavor profile and production technique.

About OUR Organic SRI LANKAN TEAS

Originally, Sri Lanka was a coffee producing country, but after a blight destroyed almost all of its coffee plants farmers looked for an alternative, and the Sri Lankan tea industry was born. Now, Sri Lanka is known for its prominence as a tea-growing country. Both of the Sri Lankan teas we offer are grown at high elevation, unlike much of the tea exported from Sri Lanka which is low-grown, making these a unique addition to our catalog.
Our organic Sri Lankan teas come from two estates in the Uva Province. Uva is a province landlocked in the southern part of Sri Lanka, and is one of the most remote parts of the country due to its difficulty of access. The climate here imparts distinct tasting notes on the tea - the region is exposed to winds from the Southeast and Northwest, bringing gusts of dry air to the area. Because of how arduous it is to get to Uva, tea production in Uva is relatively limited.
Our Organic Ceylon Black Tea and Organic Ceylon Green Tea are sourced from the Idulgashinna Estate. This high-grown tea garden was the first plantation in Sri Lanka to produce green tea in their tea factory.
